When I started my own web design studio, Resonant Pixel Company, in 2020—I thought I was majorly leveling up my work as a web designer and art/creative director who had been working at major marketing & advertising firms since 1996.
Yes, business took off quickly, but I found myself stuck with the same bottlenecks that plagued me as a full-timer and freelancer for 24 years. I was still trading my time for money, cycling through feasts and famines, and hitting an income ceiling—when my whole goal was stability to support my family.
But when I pivoted my web design business to a productized service, that’s when stability came with freedom + scalability. With 20+ active customers on this model, I was invited as a Circle Day speaker at Squarespace HQ in 2023 to talk about my shift. Not at all! While my people are the Squarespace Circle community, every lesson in this video was made to teach you proven principles to turn any web design service into a productized subscription model—from start to success.

Great question because it’s a subtle but crucial difference. Retainers are usually based on a number of hours you’re expected to work (i.e. it’s unscalable), while productizing is based on a lower monthly recurring revenue you receive to perpetuity—regardless of whether you work or not (i.e. totally scalable). In the course I’ll teach you how to determine lifetime value to set MRR.

While of course, pricing depends on many factors (something I fully lay out for you inside the course), I currently charge $289/$499 a month to clients for unlimited changes and content (which over time, doesn’t require much). For them: it’s low-entry and great to stay on. And for me: I just stack more clients to scale.

With 10 hours of video content, it can take one week to get through everything plus implementation if that’s your sole focus. But remember, there’s no race for your success. You’ll get lifetime access to everything in the course to learn in between and around your current job, all at your own pace.
